Crystal is a saxophonist, educator and composer based in Austin, Texas. Originally from Lexington, Texas Crystal has been teaching applied saxophone since 2002. She is Contracted in Leander ISD as an Applied Saxophone Teacher. In addition to teaching a select studio of private students, Crystal also coaches several student chamber music ensembles.
Crystal is a member of the Austin Saxophone Ensemble and serves on the board of Directors. She has performed with other musical groups such as the Turtle Island String Quartet, Stone Soup, Midwest Winds, and the Round Rock and Topeka Symphony Orchestras. As a composer, Crystal has written several electro-acoustic works for the saxophone and continues to add to her catalogue. She also has arranged several works for solo saxophone, ensembles and saxophone quartet.
In March of 2015, Crystal was a guest artist at the 6th Sax Fest Costa Rica Internacional. At this festival Crystal performed as a featured soloist with the Banda de Conciertos de San Jose. She also taught master classes in chamber music and electronic music at the Universidad de Costa Rica and the Instituto Nacional de Musica. Crystal has performed and lectured at regional and national conferences including premier performances of a sonata for alto saxophone and piano by Michael Liebowitz and New Horizons for saxophones and electronics by Keri Wing. Crystal currently performs and writes for the Irazu Duo with Keri Wing. As an active member of the North American Saxophone Alliance, Crystal has and continues to premiere new music and lecture on topics including the integration of Tai Chi for musicians.
Crystal enjoys gardening, hiking adventures, and has a small zoo of rescued pets: Miles, Kyoshi, BeBe and Jaco.
